Christopher chew- community democracy Project (CDP)
Chris spoke with our students about his volunteer work with the community democracy project (CDP), an all-volunteer campaign based in Oakland designed to turn the power structure right-side up by putting the people of Oakland in charge of the city budget. Thank you Chris and all of CDP for fighting for a just and equitable city of Oakland.
Mayor Arreguin & Councilmember Ben Bartlett, District 3
MSBF welcomed Mayor Arreguin and Councilmember Bartlett as they shared about their passion for social justice, which stemmed from an early age, and their career/ educational paths to their current positions as civil leaders. Our project team is grateful for the continued support from both of them.
Julie Gonzales: LYRIC SF
MSBF welcomed our very first Zoom guest speaker, Julie Gonzales! Julie runs a program called the Community Leadership Program out of LYRIC, a non-profit center for LGBTQQ+ youth based in San Francisco. The program is a paid 12-week, experiential program for LGBTQQIA+ youth and allies, ages 18-24, designed to deepen participants’ understanding of social issues impacting their communities, while supporting them in developing a culminating group project that addresses a specific community need.
